DURING THIS REPLAY WEBINAR YOU WILL LEARN:

The Goal of Passing

(Hint: We don't want to focus on the outcome).

We want to move with intention and purpose so we can consistently contact the ball in a balanced and athletic position in the 'sweet spot'.

Image

The 'Sweet Spot'

We will take a look at some film of Zoe Fleck to introduce you to what I believe is the "sweet spot' for passing. Just as baseball athletes have a sweet spot on their bat, we can be more consistent passer if we contact the serve on a specific spot on our body.

The Principle of 'Time'

From the time the ball hits the server's hands to the time the ball hits our platform what are we doing in that time? How intentionally and efficiently are we moving towards the serve? Or are we making assumption or unconscious steps that leave us falling and leaning on contact?

Image

Tier 1 Split Step - Assumption Step

Our subconscious mind is very powerful and is often making assumptions that lead to steps in the wrong direction. This incorrect assumption step destroys our ability to get to the ball and contact the serve in a balanced athletic position, leaving us vulnerable to last second floats.

Image

Tier 2 Split Step - Unconscious and Unbalanced

It’s a step up from an assumption step as our feet are off the ground but if we have no idea how are feet are landing, we may fall into a position where we are more likely to take negative steps than steps towards the serve.

Tier 3 Split Step - Primed and Ready

This is a conscious split step, landing on two feet and balanced. The 3rd tier split step is a big win for the athlete looking to become a more consistent receiver.

The Game-Changer

Tier 4 - Conscious and Efficient

It’s about timing, discipline, and a conscious track of the float serve.

The best professional liberos in the world are able to pick off the line of the serve when the ball is 3-8 feet off the servers hand and land only on one foot, allowing them to initiate their movement into the seam, in front of them or back to their line.

And the best part, you don't have to wait to be a pro. You can do it too!

Get back to enjoying the sport you love.

Hey there, I'm Dustin Watten, a professional libero, former member of Team USA, the founder of noezybuckets and the Libero Academy. Over the years, I've worked with NCAA liberos and outside hitters to help them to improve their skills and performance on the court.

Last summer, I ran over 20 clinics from California to the Bronx, while working 1v1 with private clinics and the best 3 NCAA liberos Zoe Fleck, Mason Briggs and Lexi Rodriguez.

My vision in working with the next generation of athletes: You don't have to wait to become a professional to embody and train like one

By understanding how mindful and intentional professionals work, I believe you can level up your game much faster by understanding the 'why' and 'how' of defense and reception.

The days of standing still on serve receive are running out

The split step is in complete contradiction to how I was taught how to pass but when we look at the video, very often our first step after standing still is a guess and/or too late.

We have the opportunity as libero to access the benefits of a split step and dial in our timing so we can become the leader of our back court.

Almost every libero in the top 3 professional leagues are using some version of an approach split step - why not you?

The time is now!

With professional concepts and principles guiding you, you can train a quicker first step and become a more confident and consistent float serve receiver.

You deserve to play the game you love with more joy and confidence.

Every athlete deserves to play the game they love without the burden of anxiety, frustration or even shame. I believe this because even as a professional libero I experienced these debilitating feelings, which almost led me to quit.

I've spent the last 13 years devoting my life to getting 1-2% better each day and the last 3 years writing and creating videos in my spare time in between professional and Team USA practices. My mission is to reach and help liberos who love volleyball as much as I do and help them see the game with the eyes of a professional.

You deserve a mentor, who knows your journey, the frustration and anxiety many liberos experience due to lack of clarity of how to train or even what to focus on when passing float serves.

It’s time to take your game to the next level by adding the clarity and training intentions of a professional athlete.
